Received today from Oregon's Senator Jeff Merkley who . . . .wait for it . . . . lands it in backing off of his "get me elected stance," of NO LNG. Eventually straddling the fence will start to hurt.

Dear S.,

Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. I appreciate hearing from you.

I have heard from many Oregonians on both sides of this issue. I am interested in the possible business and jobs that export terminals could bring to the Pacific Northwest, but I also share many of your concerns about the potential problems with liquefied natural gas terminals.

Most importantly, I believe it is imperative that concerns raised by Oregonians, and especially by local residents, be considered and thoroughly addressed before any decision of this magnitude is made. With matters that affect local communities on such a large scale, such as this, it is essential that we make sure that the voices of the community are heard before any proposal moves forward.

Please know that I will continue to monitor this issue and delve into the complex policy implications, and I certainly keep your views in mind as it progresses. Again, I appreciate your input, and I hope you keep sending your observations and thoughts my way.

All my best,

Jeffrey A. Merkley
United States Senator
