So sad . . .
Jumping immediately to action after receiving the news: mothers, activists and off-duty engineers went to English Bay beach and worked till sunset scrubbing oil off rocks with sink detergent. The accident occurred April 8, 2015 at 5 PM from a nearby ship at anchor in English Bay. The Marathassa, a bulk-grain carrier, released at minimum 2800 L of a toxic crude known as Bunker fuel.Volunteers put their health at risk, some unknowingly, because they saw no professional clean-up crew present, more than 24 hours after the spill. We interviewed these volunteers to understand what they were seeing. #VanFuelSpillFilmed on April 9, 2015.
